My Snow Day Reading List – Winter 2018 Biannual Bibliothon Blog Challenge Day 1

Hey guys! 🙂 This week is the Winter Biannual Bibliothon. If you haven’t heard of it, the Biannual Bibliothon is a readathon hosted twice a year by several booktubers, bookstagrammers, and book bloggers. They have reading, video, blog, and Instagram challenges. If you’d like to learn more about it, you can find all of their videos here. This is my first time participating and I’m really excited!

The blog challenge for day one was created by Latte Nights Reviews and it is to create a list of books that you would read on a snowy day. I’ve chosen five books that I really like: two with wintery settings and, if you’d rather escape from the boredom of a snow day, three that will pull you in and help you escape to vivid, non-wintery settings. Here they are:

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Being the first book in my favorite series of all time, this one is a given. But not only is it my go to, it has a great winter setting for a large part of the book and a wonderful Christmas chapter. Really, many of the Harry Potter books would have worked here for these reasons. I like to spend my snow days dreaming about spending a Christmas at the Burrow.

2. The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

I got this book in the Epic Reads Holiday Box this past December so I read it right around Christmas and it was PERFECT for this time of year. It’s a retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens so it leads up to the holiday season. In part, though, it’s about a girl’s adventures in New York City during the winter. It’s just a warm, fun read and it would be perfect for a snowy day.

3. Zodiac by Romina Russell

This book will transport you out of this world… literally. The entire Zodiac series takes place in a Galaxy where each House is dedicated to an astrological sign (there’s House Cancer, House Virgo, House Taurus, etc). It’s an action-packed sci-fi/fantasy series and it’s one of my absolute favorites. The world building is AMAZING, the characters are so diverse, and plot is incredibly intriguing. If you’re ever looking for an escape on a snowy day, I highly recommend escaping to the Zodiac Galaxy.

4. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This book is really intricate and therefore really hard to explain haha. Please believe me when I say that this is by far one of the most magical settings I have ever read about. Caraval is a performance that the audience participates in. However, nothing is as it seems and the main characters as swept up in this world of illusions. This book was simply unlike any I have ever read before and I highly recommend it. It was one of my two favorite releases of 2017.

5. Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody

This was my other favorite release of 2017 and it was just as astounding as Caraval. This story follows Sorina, a jynx-worker living in the Gomorrah Festival – a dark, traveling carnival. I LOVED the setting of this book. It was so unique and alluring, and it sounds like the kind of place you could spend days exploring. This story was an extremely enticing mystery and I would definitely turn to this book for an escape on a snowy day.
