The Ultimate Book Tag

Ultimate Book Tag.jpg

I was tagged by Erin Eliza @ Undercover Binge Reader. Please check out her blog because it is lovely! ❤ There are no rules, you just get to answer the questions 🙂

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. I’m not really sure why. Obviously I always hope that I don’t get carsick though because I love to read on car rides.

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

Out of the authors I’ve read this year, I think the author of Nice Try, Jane Sinner, Lianne Oelke, has a very unique writing style. Not only is her debut novel formatted as a diary (which I don’t always like, but really did in this case), her writing is very dry and sarcastic.

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give three points to defend your answers.

100% the Harry Potter series. I enjoyed the Twilight saga when I read it but Harry Potter has been my favorite series since I read it when I was a kid. I’m a huge Potterhead and it has always stayed with me, so this is an easy choice for me. As for my reasons:

  • The magic – Vampires are cool but c’mon… wizards. The whole magic system is so well developed and I love everything about it.
  • The characters – Looking back, most of the characters in Twilight really annoy me. On the other hand, there are so many characters that I adore in Harry Potter. It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite.
  • Hogwarts – I know I’m not alone when I say that it’s my dream to attend Hogwarts. A castle full of secrets where you take classes like Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts? Yes, please!

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what’s in it (besides books…)?

Yes! I’m not much of a purse person, but I always have my backpack with me. Usually it’s mostly filled with books, but some other things I carry around are: my laptop, a notebook and pencil case in case I want to take notes for reviews, and my chargers (phone and laptop).

5. Do you smell your books?

Guilty as charged 😉 I love to smell books!! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book without smelling it.

6. Books with or without little illustrations?

Usually I read books without little illustrations, but I’d be willing to read books with illustrations depending on the style. The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo is on my TBR and I’ve flipped through it and the illustrations are beautiful!!

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

When I was in middle school, I was obsessed with all of Ellen Hopkins’ books. I reread my favorite, Identical, in high school and I didn’t like it as much. I don’t necessarily think that her writing isn’t quality, I think I just outgrew the style. I’m also not as interested in reading about the topics she discusses.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

There are pictures of me somewhere where I’m sitting in a highchair with food all over my face and a book in my hands and I’m angrily screaming about whatever I’m reading. Even as a toddler, I was probably raging over the deaths of my favorite characters hahaha.

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

I think Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling.

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

As of right now I only write for my blog, but it is a dream of mine to write novels and become an author. I’ve done some brainstorming so hopefully I’ll start a first draft soon!

12. When did you get into reading?

I’ve been a reader for as long as I can remember. My grandfather and mother always read to me when I was a child and my grandfather continued to buy me books fairly often as I grew up. I’m very grateful that they turned me into such a bookworm ❤

13. What is your favorite classic book?

I have a few. Some lists consider The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton to be a classic and if that’s the case then that’s definitely my favorite. I thought that book was amazing. I love greasers and I loved the time period it took place in.

14. In school what was your best subject?

Surprisingly, my best subject in school was math. Considering I’ve always loved to read, it’d probably make more sense if it had been English. While I do enjoy English, I just find it to be too subjective. However, I love solving problems and I love numbers so math is actually really fun for me. I’m now a math major!

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated… what would you do?

Like Erin said, I’d just be gracious and accept it, and then later on I’d donate it!

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or The Hunger Games?

The Legend trilogy by Marie Lu! I guess it’s more similar to The Hunger Games because it’s about a dystopia.

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?

I do want to start a BookTube channel but I haven’t yet, so I guess I’ll find out the answer to this one soon!

18. What is your favorite word?

This question is killing me because occasionally I hear a word and think that it’s my favorite but now I can’t remember the most recent word I thought that about.

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

I’m definitely a nerd. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with either “dork” or “dweeb,” but “nerd” just fits my personality better.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Vampires because I like blood. Also being undead and not having to sleep? Imagine all the books I could read! Apparently fairies are really mean anyways.

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Shapeshifters because angels just seem so religious and I think shapeshifting would be really cool.

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Spirits because I think ghosts are cool. I’m also not a huge fan of werewolves. They’re okay but I think they’re overrated. (Honestly this might be because I was so anti-Jacob when it came to Twilight. I was just so sick of everyone being “Team Jacob” because they were more attracted to Taylor Lautner.)

23. Zombies or vampires? Why?

Vampires because of the reasons I said earlier and because I’m really not a fan of zombies. I value intelligence a lot and while some vampires have hundreds of years worth of knowledge, zombies are literally brain dead. They just kind of stumble around and eat people and I don’t find it to be that exciting.

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

I’m not obsessed with either of these and they can both be okay if they’re done right, but in general I would say that I prefer forbidden love.

25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

I don’t mind full on romance books, but I’d probably prefer action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in.

  1. I was the same way with the math vs. english thing. I’m all for talking about books nonstop (obviously) but it always felt like my teachers wanted one right answer and books aren’t like that. Loved this post!

    1. Haha yes!! That’s so true, there’s no one right answer when it comes to books. Also, what is considered good writing to one person can be considered bad to another, so I just think it’s unfair to be graded based on one person’s opinion. Thank you! ❤

  2. Haha great answers! I smell my books too, and The Language of Thorns definitely has beautiful illustrations; SUCH a pretty book. ❤ And I feel like I need to read Outsiders sometime! I zoned out as a kid while my teacher read it to us, and I've regretted it ever since. 😂

    1. Thank you!! ❤ Hahaha I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one! Yes, I’m so excited to read it and get a closer look at the illustrations! Aw 😂Well I would definitely recommend reading it if you get the chance! I hope you love it if you do 🙂
