I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about this readathon! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s part of the Magical Readathon hosted by G @ Book Roast. It’s inspired by the tests Hogwarts students take in Harry Potter. For this readathon, the Ordinary Wizarding Levels (OWLs) are taken in April and the Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (NEWTs) take place in August. This year, G has even created a Wizarding Careers Guidebook. The idea is that you pick a career that you would like to pursue, and then you pass the tests required for those jobs by reading books that satisfy the related prompts. This is a really brief explanation, but you can learn more about this readathon here. I highly recommend checking it out. Not only does it seem so fun, but also G put so much work into planning it and it really shows.
This is the second year this readathon is taking place. When I heard about it last year, I thought it was a really awesome idea but unfortunately I found out about it after it already started so I didn’t participate. Therefore, I am incredibly excited to be participating this year. I’ve honestly been obsessing over the career I’m going to choose and the books I’m going to read since the announcement video was posted. I’m a very indecisive person and I may have spent hours making lists in order to decide what to do, haha.
The career I really want to choose is Hogwarts Professor. I think it has the most flexibility. However, I know that April is going to be a very busy month for me and I’m worried I won’t be able to finish seven books. So I’ve decided to read the five books required for Auror, and if I have time, I’ll read the extra two and be able to do the Professor NEWTs. Below, the photo on the left shows the Auror requirements and the one on the right shows the Professor requirements.
I’ve decided that as a Professor, I’d want to teach Charms. Then I’m required to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts, and the five additional subjects of my choice would be: Arithmancy, Herbology, Muggle Studies, Potions, and Transfiguration. Basically, I would already be reading the five books required to be an Auror, plus two more. So as I mentioned before, I’m going to read the five books required for an Auror, and if I have time I’ll read books for Arithmancy and Muggle Studies.
Lastly, I’m going to go into the books I’m planning to read for each topic (they may change slightly by the time the readathon begins). The picture below shows the prompts for each subject.
Arithmancy – Geektastic by various authors
Charms – The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Defense Against the Dark Arts – Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner
Herbology– Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
Muggle Studies – Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett or Heroine by Mndy McGinnis
Potions – Evermore by Sara Holland or The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
Transfiguration – Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody
Let’s Chat!
Are you participating in the OWLs readathon next month? If so, what career are you choosing? Have you read any of the books on my TBR?
Great TBR! I keep hearing such wonderful things about The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang, I really should get to it sooner rather than later. Best of luck during the readathon!

Thank you! Yes, I’ve heard so many great things about The Kiss Quotient and I’ve been meaning to read it for what feels like forever, haha. I want to read it before Helen Hoang’s next book comes out though, so this seems like the perfect opportunity. Best of luck to you too and enjoy 🙂

I sadly can’t participate in this readathon because I suck at readathons and I’m going to be busy in April 😦 but I’m also gonna be reading truly devious in April for the books with friends book club. It’s a veteran on my TBR, so I’m excited!

I also suck at readathons to be completely honest. I haven’t participated in any yet this year because I’ve been so busy. I’m really excited about this one though so hopefully I’ll actually get a lot of reading accomplished. That’s awesome, I hope you love Truly Devious 🙂 It’s been on my TBR for a long time too, so I’m also excited to finally get to it.

Curse Breaker sounds awesome! I loved Amanda Foody’s first book, Daughter of the Burning City, so I’ve been meaning to read this one forever and I figured I finally had to do it before the sequel came out, haha. Thank you! I hope you enjoy all the books you read as well 🙂
